JHSG Meet the Team
Phil Volante – Chairman
Phil is one of the original founders of JHSG and thought of JHSG as a way of continuing with the camaraderie which built up whilst the founders were attending the cardiac rehabilitation group and exercise class as the hospital.
Phil is a qualified electronics engineer and worked for a number of years in the office repair industry however, is now self-employed as the director of P P Volante, a building, decorating and property maintenance contracting company established by his father in the 1980’s.
Mike Wright – Deputy Chairman
Sue De Gruchy – Secretary
Sue joined in January 2014 as assistant secretary and has since become secretary for JHSG. Sue was touched by the support offered to her father, who died from heart disease and wanted to give something back.
Sue works as a trust manager during the day and in her free time enjoys running, cycling and holidays. Sue also has a daughter who works as a staff nurse in the Intensive Care Unit.
Marcus Tampion – Treasurer
Marcus joined in February 2017 as honorary treasurer for JHSG. Marcus wanted to volunteer his time for a local charity which plays an important role in the awareness and support of people living with heart disease.
Marcus is employed as an accounting manager within the Trust sector during the day and his interests include walking, gardening and cooking.
Mike joined the Jersey Heart Support Group in January 2012, 3 years after regaining strength from an aortic dissection which occurred on 21st Sept ’08 and eleven months after retiring from a very active business life of 42 years.
Mike finds that working with the JHSG in raising awareness and being involved with the blood pressure checks held at events and public places proves to be a vital contribution to the community.
Mike’s active interests are lawn bowls, cycling, carpentry, gardening, artistic painting and travelling.
Angela is one of the original founders of JHSG following a stent operation nearly 5 years ago. She believed there was a gap in the charity sector to provide support to those with heart issues hence the decision to create JHSG came about.
A former civil servant, Angela is now retired however, enjoys gardening and going to the gym in her free time.
Richard was born in Scarborough, England. You may recognise the name around the island as a former teacher at Victoria College and a radio presenter at BBC Radio Jersey for the past 31 years specialising in sports commentary.
Richard joined JHSG in 2011 as he wanted to support a charity which he considers to be very worthwhile and beneficial for the community.
During his working life Ken worked in the Motor Trade for 30 years in the administration area. Ken was Finance Director of a group of garages in the Channel Islands with UK branches. Following that career Ken joined a long-established accountancy practice in Jersey where he was involved directly with clients in the preparation of their annual accounts.
Ken’s other interests include singing with Les Conteurs Singers and is an active member of St Aubin Methodist Church. Ken also enjoys reading, cooking, eating out and going away on holiday as often as possible!
Ken joined the committee in June 2015
Emma joined in 2016 as a committee member and being Jersey born wanted to dedicate her time to the JHSG which she saw offered invaluable support to local residents. With previous experience in Social Media administration, Emma also felt her skills could help raise awareness for heart related topics as well as provide up to date news about the charity.
Emma, has worked in Finance for over 30 years and in her spare time enjoys spending time with her son and daughter, walking, reading and travelling.
Jacquie joined the committee in November 2016 following her own experience of a family member suffering from a heart condition which was never detected. Jacquie would be delighted if a free screening programme was available to everyone on the island to help diagnose heart problems earlier and reduce the number of premature deaths, so is hoping that she can support this cause as a committee member.
During the day, Jacquie is a full time compliance manager for a law firm and in her spare time, she loves spending time with her family and dogs plus running and studying law.
